Food and food production facts
Milk/Dairy Products
* The Dairy Council tells us: "Milk is nature's most perfect food"
* The Dairy Council doesn't tell us: Milk is nature's food for a baby calf, who has four stomachs, will double its weight in 47 days and is destined to weigh 300 pounds within a year
* The Dairy Council tells children: To grow up big and strong, drink lots of milk
* The Dairy Council occasionally tells children: The enzyme necessary for digestion of animal milk is lactase
* The Dairy Council never tells children: 20% of Caucasians, 53% of the Hispanics and 80-95% of Black people have no lactase in their intestines.
* 89% of the dairy herds in the United States are infected with leukemia (a cancer of the blood/bonemarrow). The milk industry says the leukemia virus is rendered inactive by pasteurization ( a process of heating milk up to 158 Fº ). All of the commercial milk is pasteurized.
* Pasteurization changes the calcium into an insoluble form which cannot be absorbed by animals or humans. This high-heat cooking also destroys all the enzymes.
* Calves will die if fed pasteurized milk/cheese as their normal diet. Again, all milk is pasteurized in the USA (or its illegal to sell).
* Milk is actually white blood. The average quart of milk (sold in America) contains 322 million white blood cells. Once its pasteurized it becomes 322 million dead white blood cells. Were drinking dead blood
* The infectious particle causing Cows to become "mad" is called a Prion. Prions cannot be destroyed by pasteurization.
* A single documented dairy cow infected with Mad Cow Disease from a Washington herd, had her milk pooled with 3,000 others from that same herd. This "pooled" milk was distributed on the West Coast. Her infected milk was made into cheese and butter and ice cream, and shipped from the West Coast to the East Coast, and to all points in between.
* The incubation period for Mad Cows Disease: 20 years (meaning in 20 years you will know whether you have been infected... which is why the dairy folks are off the hook...for now)
* 80% of the protein in milk is casein. Casein is the primary ingredient of furniture glue and is also used for holding beer bottle labels in place
* The cholesterol content of those three glasses of milk is equal to what one would get from 53 slices of bacon.
* Milk Producers original ad campaign slogan: "Everybody needs milk"
* What the Federal Trade Commission called the "Everybody needs milk" slogan: "False, misleading and deceptive"
* Milk Producer's revised campaign slogan: "Milk has something for everybody"
* Increased risk of breast cancer for women who eat butter and cheese 3 or more times a week compared to women who eat these foods less than once a week: 3 times higher
* Of those 59 hormones found in milk one is a powerful growth hormone called Insulin- like Growth Factor ONE (IGF-1). IGF-1 is a normal part of all milk as the newborn cow is supposed to grow very quickly. By a freak of nature this hormone is identical in cows and humans. This hormone is a well documented "fuel cell" for any cancer. IGF-1 is a key factor in the rapid growth and proliferation of breast, prostate and colon cancers, and is suspected that most likely it will be found to rapidly promote the growth of ALL cancers.
* The USDA’s Pesticide Data Program (PDP) is the most sophisticated government program in the world that tests food for pesticide residues. From the official 2004 report: DDE was found in 96 percent of the tested samples. Diphenylamine (DPA) was found in 98 percent of the samples. Another long-banned chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticide, dieldrin, was found in 41 percent of the samples. A synthetic pyrethroid insecticide was found in 24 percent of the samples. The endocrine disrupting insecticide endosulfan was found in 18 percent of the samples. A breakdown product of the highly toxic carbamate insecticide carbofuran was found in 9 percent of the samples.
* Each bite of cheese has TEN TIMES whatever was in that sip of milk... because it takes ten pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese. Each bite of ice cream has 12 times ... and every swipe of butter 21 times whatever is contained in the fat molecules in a sip of milk.
*Milked cows are still slaughtered for meat. The natural lifespan of a cow in nature is 25 years, yet most milked cows are only four years of age when their bodies are simply worn out, and must be slaughtered. Kept in a constant cycle of artificial pregnancy through synthetic drugs, with lactation and milking by industrial machines, these cows are confined from all other animals including their children, they are made to stand on concrete floors in their own waste all day in a factory to produce 100 pounds of milk a day— 10 times more than they would produce in nature.
* No creature past its infancy consumes milk or milk by-products. Humans are the only species (besides the ones we feed it to) who do. The human body has no more need for cows' milk/cheese than it does for dogs' milk/cheese, horses' milk/cheese, or giraffes' milk/cheese. There is no nutrient in dairy that cannot be found in non-dairy sources.
Heart Attack
* Most common cause of death in U.S. : Heart attack
* How frequently a heart attack strikes in the U.S.: Strikes very 25 seconds, kills every 45 seconds
* Risk of death from heart attack by average American man: at least half the population will die this way
* Risk of death from heart attack by average American pure vegetarian man: 4% of this group will die this way
* Hollywood celebrity paid by meat board to tout beef as "Real food for real people": James Garner
* Medical event experienced recently by James Garner in April: Quintuple coronary artery
bypass surgery
* Amount you reduce your risk of heart attack by eliminating your consumption of meat, dairy products,
and eggs: 90%
* U.S. physicians are as a rule ill-educated in the single most important factor of health, namely diet and nutrition. Of the 125 medical schools in the U.S., only 30 require their students to take a course in nutrition. The average nutrition training received by the average U.S. physician during four years in school is only 2.5 hours. Thus doctors in the U.S. are ill-equipped to advise their patients in minimizing foods, such as meat, that are known causes of heart attack.
Pesticides, Sterility and other great things
* Ninety-nine percent of U.S. human breast milk contains significant levels of DDT. In stark contrast, only 8% of U.S. vegetarian mother's milk containing significant levels of DDT. This shows that the primary source of DDT is the meat/dairy ingested by the mothers.
* Meat-eating mothers have 35 times higher levels of chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides in their breast milk versus nonmeat-eating mothers.
* The amount of the pesticide Dieldrin ingested by the average breast-fed American infant is 9 times the permissible level
* Sperm count of average American male compared to 30 years ago: down 30%
* Principle reason for sterility and sperm count reduction in U.S. males: Chlorinated hydrocarbon
pesticides, including dioxin and DDT
*Chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticide residues in the U.S. diet supplied by meat: 55%
*Chlorinated hydrocarbon residues in the U.S. diet supplied by milk/cheese products: 23%
*Chlorinated hydrocarbon residues in U.S. diet supplied by conventional produce: 6%
* The meat Board tells us not to be concerned about the dioxin and other pesticides in today's beef because: the quantities are small
* The meat board doesn't want us to know: How potent “small" quantities of dioxin and the other pesticides are.
* The meat board particularly doesn't want us to know: A mere ounce of dioxin could kill 10 million people
* Of all antibiotics used in the U.S., 55% are fed to livestock. Why? The animals that are being factory raised for meat in the United States are vastly diseased. The livestock industry attempts to control this disease by feeding the animals antibiotics. Huge quantities of these drugs are needed to maintain the animal's minimum appearance of health. These antibiotics and the bacteria they are intended to destroy remain in the meat that sells in the market.
* The European Economic Community has banned the importation of U.S. meat. Why? They know the routine feeding of antibiotics to U.S. livestock makes toxic-risky meat, and European buyers do not want to expose their consumers to this serious health hazard. By comparison, U.S. meat and pharmaceutical industries gave their full and complete support to the routine feeding of antibiotics to livestock in America, turning a blind eye to the threat of disease to the consumer.
* When an animal is on the assembly line for butchering, it is enormously stressed. It smells the blood and hears the other animals' cries. It reacts by releasing massive amounts of stress hormones into its blood (such as cortisol). These are toxic hormones that destroy the immune system. These remain in the meat and are transmitted to those who eat it, continuing to wreak havoc on your body. Our bodies can easily recognize these hormones since they are the very same hormones our own bodies produce when we are under great stress. This is why eating meat may actually make you more stressed. A UK team followed a group of 86 children to mothers who were told to "eat a pound of red meat a day to avoid pregnancy complications". The study found the more meat the mother ate, the higher the levels of stress hormone cortisol in the child. The study said these individuals may secrete more cortisol — not only early in life, but into adulthood as well.
World Hunger
* Human population of United States: 243,000,000
* Number of human beings who could be fed by the grains and beans eaten by U.S. livestock: 1, 300,000,000 That over a billion (1,057,000,000) more people than our population.
* Number of people who will starve to death this year: 60,000,000
* Number of people who could be adequately fed by the grain saved if Americans reduced
their intake of meat by 10%: 60,000,000
* Eighty percent of the corn and 95% of the oats grown in the U.S. is eaten by livestock.
Rainforest/Land Destruction
* The single greatest reason behind the destruction of the tropical rainforests: raising cattle for the American meat habit.
* Amount of meat imported annually by U.S. from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala,
Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama: 200,000,000 pounds
* Amount of meat eaten by average person in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Panama: Less than average American housecat
* Current rate of species extinction due to destruction of tropical rainforests and related habitats: 1,000/year.
* Forty five percent of the total land in the USA is used to raise animals for food or crops to feed these animals.
Water Usage
* User of more than half of all water used for all purposes in the United States: Livestock production
* Quantity of water used in the production of the average cow sufficient to: float a large Navy destroyer ship
* Water needed to produce 1 pound of wheat: 25 gallons
* Water needed to reduce 1 pound of meat: 2,500 gallons
* Cost of common hamburger meat if water used by meat industry was not subsidized by
U.S. taxpayers: $35/pound
Feedlot Sewage
* According to the Environmental Protection Agency, animal factory farming pollutes U.S. waterways more than all industrial sources combined.
* Production of excrement by total U.S. human population: 12,000 pounds/second
* Production of excrement by U.S. livestock: 250,000 pounds/second
* Sewage systems in U.S. cities: Common
* Sewage systems in U.S. feedlots: Nil
* Amount of waste produced annually by U.S. livestock which is not recycled: 1 billion tons
* Relative concentration of feedlot wastes compared to raw domestic sewage: Ten to several hundred times more highly concentrated
* Where feedlot waste often ends up: In our water
Protein
* Recommended percentage of daily calories to be derived from protein according to World Health Organization: 4.5%
* Recommended percentage according to Food and Nutrition Board of the U.S.D.A: 6%
* Recommended percentage according to National Research Council: 8%
* Percentage of calories of protein from common vegetable like broccoli: 45%
* Current cost for pound of protein from wheat: $1.50
* Current cost for pound of protein from beefsteak: $15.40
* Disease linked to inadequate protein consumption: its called Kwashiorkor
* Number of cases of kwashiorkor in United States: Virtually none
* Diseases linked to excess protein consumption: Osteoporosis and Kidney failure
* Number of cases of osteoporosis and kidney failure in the United States: Tens of millions
* Health status of pure vegetarians from many populations of the world according to the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences: Excellent
* The meat, dairy, and egg industries tell us: Animal products constitute 2 of the "Basic 4" food groups
* The meat, dairy, and egg industries don't tell us: There were originally 12 official basic food groups, before these industries applied enormous political pressure on behalf of their products
* The risk of fatal prostate cancer is 3.6 times greater for men who consume meat, cheese, eggs and milk daily as compared with sparingly or not at all.
Animal Factories
* Smithfield Foods, the largest and most profitable pork processor in the world, killed 27 million pigs last year. Thats roughly equivalent to butchering and packaging the entire human populations of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, San Jose, Detroit, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, San Francisco, Columbus, Austin, Memphis, Baltimore, Fort Worth, Charlotte, El Paso, Milwaukee, Seattle, Boston, Denver, Louisville, Washington, D.C., Nashville, Las Vegas, Portland, Oklahoma City and Tucson. Keep in mind that a single slaughtered hog is the weight of 2 adult humans. Smithfield estimates that its total sales will reach $11.4 billion this year.
* Most cows are killed by the process of Kosher slaughter. Kosher slaughter involves hanging an animal particularly a cow or pig by its hooves. The animal's neck is slashed open without any kind of anethesia. The animal hangs and bleeds to death.
* Wingspan of average chicken: 26 inches
* Space average chicken given in egg factories: 6-7 inches wide
* Reason today's veal is so tender: Calves never allowed to take single step
* Reason today's veal is whitish-pink as opposed to deep red: The calves are sick and are force fed an anemia-producing diet. The cages are so small that the calves cannot stand or even move in order to clean themselves. The veal calves are kept in the dark most of their lives within the cages. They are subjected to a cruel and horrid life. White veal consistently has been found to contain residues of carcinogenic growth hormones.
* McDonald's brags: 60 million sold
* McDonald's doesn't brag about: 50 million butchered
* McDonald's clown, Ronald McDonald, tells children: Hamburgers grow in hamburger patches and love to be eaten.
* McDonald's clown, Ronald McDonald, doesn't tell children: Hamburgers are ground up cows who've had their throats slit or their heads bashed by sledgehammers
* Original actor to play Ronald McDonald: Jeff Juliano
* Diet now followed by Jeff Juliano: Vegetarian I quote: "I brainwashed youngsters into doing wrong. I want to say sorry to children everywhere for selling out to concerns who make millions by murdering animals."
* Number of animals killed for meat per hour in U.S.: 660,000
* Occupation with highest employee turnover rate in U.S.: Slaughterhouse worker
* Occupation with highest employee rate of injury in U.S.: Slaughterhouse worker
* Cost to render an animal unconscious prior to slaughter with captive bolt pistol so that process is done humanely: 1 penny
* Reason given by meat industry for not utilizing captive bolt pistol: Too expensive
* More than one-third of all the raw materials and fossil fuels used in our country go to raise animals for food.
Eggs
* Egg Board's advertising slogan: The incredible edible egg
* Increased risk of breast cancer for women who eat eggs daily compared to women who eat eggs less than once a week: 3 times higher
* Part of female chicken's body that produces eggs: Ovaries
* Increased risk of fatal ovarian cancer for women who eat eggs 3 times a week or more compared to women who eat eggs less than once a week: 3 times higher
* In the egg industry, male chicks are considered useless so are often thrown into a grinding machine- ALIVE.
*97% of store bought eggs are still produced under atrocious Auschwitz-like conditions: hens are stuffed into battery cages, where they spend their entire miserable lives on a wired surface averaging approximately 7x7 inches per bird. Imagine a cat or dog living like this? It is no surprise that 60% of supermarket chickens are infected with Salmonella enteritis.
* Eggs are currently the only indisputable natural source of vitamin B12 I have found that doesn't have eyes. As eggs (and all meat) are highly acidic, this stresses the body to produce alkaline substances such as calcium and magnesium to counteract the excess of acidity. If these minerals are not abundant in your diet, they must be drained from the bones. To avoid this eat raw green leafy vegetables (very high in calcium/magnesium).
* Which eggs are the healthiest and most humane? The consumer must find organic farm eggs from hens that have full outdoor/sunshine access and that have not been debeaked . Sadly, this is almost impossible to find commercially in your supermarkets. Ask your provider if there is debeaking (a process by which much of a young chick's beak is burned or cut off without anesthetic) of the birds. This immediately reveals if there is a high density of birds. Under a true free range setting, hens can establish a "pecking order" and none is in danger so long as she can move easily to a different area. Under a high-stress, high-density environment, a natural pecking order cannot be established and the sharp beaks of hens are removed because they will peck each other to death in their agony of crowded restraint
Here are the various types of commercial eggs sold:
* "Cage free" This term has no legal meaning. Hens laying eggs labeled as "cage free" may be uncaged inside barns or warehouses, but generally do not ever have access to the outdoors. No fresh air, no sun on their backs. They suffer from the same lung lesions and ammonia burns as hens in cages, and they have breast blisters to add to their suffering. They still have their sensitive beaks cut off with a hot blade and are crammed together in filthy sheds where they will live for years.
* "Certified Humane" Same as above. The birds are uncaged inside barns or warehouses, but may be kept indoors at all times. Debeaking is still fully allowed! This term is outrageously false and is currently being contended by small animal-interest groups.
* "Natural" This label has no relevance to animal welfare or nutrition.
* "Free range, free roaming" Here's the U.S. Department of Agriculture definition of these terms in its entirety: "Producers must demonstrate to the Agency that the poultry has been allowed access to the outside." In other words, there has to be a door, and it has to be open at least part of the time. The USDA hasn't established criteria for the size of the "range" or the amount of space per bird, so things can get nearly as crowded outside as inside. While free-range and organic egg farms are technically supposed to give birds outdoor access, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has decided that “they may be temporarily confined” at any time for “reasons of health, safety, the animal's stage of production or to protect soil or water quality.” This loophole is big enough to drive a truck through, and the owners of many free-range egg farms take full advantage of it by almost never allowing the birds outside. For instance, at a Horizon Foods organic and "free-range" farm, more than 400,000 birds—are crowded in a warehouse. Hardly a small, natural, family-run business youd expect from the pictures on the carton showing smiling hens (which falsely show them to still have their beaks!) Under the "free range" label, both debeaking and forced molting through starvation are fully permitted and are invariably used.
*It's intrinsically problematic to raise chickens for egg consumption. Male chicks are thrown away, even in small-scale operations, since they don't lay eggs. That's 50 percent of the chicks that are destroyed.
Athletic Performance
* Only man to win the Ironman Triathlon more than twice: Dave Scott, 6 time winner
* Food choice of Dave Scott: Vegetarian
* World record holder for 24 hour triathlon (swim 4.8 miles, cycle 185 miles, run 52.5 miles): Sixto Linares
* Food choice of Sixto Linares: Strict vegetarian
* Athlete who most totally dominated Olympic sport in track and field history: Edwin Moses
* Food choice of Edwin Moses: Vegetarian
Few other notable vegetarian athletes:
• Bill Pearl, four-time Mr Universe
• Stan Price: World record-bench press
• Andreas Cahling: Winner Mr International body building championships
• Paavo Nurmi: 20 World's records in distance running, 9 olympic medals
• Bill Pickering: World record swimming English Channel
• Roy Hilligan: Winner Mr America body building championships
• Pierreo Verot: World's record for downhill endurance skiing
• Estelle Gray and Cherly Marek: World's record for cross-country tandem cycling
• James and Johnathon deDonato: World's record for distance butterfly stroke swimming
Few Other Notable Vegetarians
* Leonardo da vinci, Albert Einstein , St Francis of Assisi, Jesus , Buddha, Aristotle, Confucius, Sir Isaac Newton, Ben Franklin, Socrates, Tesla, Voltaire, Henry David Thoreau,Thomas Edison, Mark Twain, Abraham Lincoln, and Ralph Waldo Emerson to name a few.
Even Adolf Hitler ! was repelled by eating animals and was mostly vegetarian (he still ate liver dumplings) during the latter part of his life. In fact, it's said that he predicted that the world of the future would be vegetarian. Records show that Hitler amused himself by telling grim stories of slaughterhouses while entertaining meat-eating guests. When they were put off their food, he would mock them for their hypocrisy. On one such occasion, he remarked: "That shows how cowardly people are. They can't face doing certain horrible things themselves, but they enjoy the benefits without a pang of conscience.”
Karma
* The average meat eater is responsible for the deaths of roughly 1,160 birds (chickens/turkeys/ducks), 3 Sheep, 23 pigs, 12 large cows and more than 1000 fish. What difference would it make if we added to the list 30 dogs or cats? (Incidentally, scientists have proven long ago that pigs are vastly more intelligent and sensitive than dogs and cats, right behind dolphins in fact)
As an average meat eater, you can literally say you were directly responsible for the imprisonment, torture, and murder of hundreds of non-consenting fellow Earthlings in your lifetime. Yes, animals by definition are just as much Earthlings as we are.
According to Eastern religions, this "enjoying the benefits" of horrible things puts you in a negative place. These religions firmly maintain that all this suffering will have to be accounted for, and will work against you whether in this life or the next.
Meditate on this: Is the thought of slaughtering a cow or chicken or pig with your own hands too much to handle? Instead, would hiring a hit-man to do the job give you enough distance from the emotional discomfort? For you to have one quick bite of meat the animal most likely had to live its whole life in confinement and suffering in a factory. The question isnt, Can animals reason? nor Can they talk? but, Can they suffer greatly?
"Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival for life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet."
Albert Einstein

* Production of excrement by U.S. livestock: 250,000 pounds/second

* McDonald's brags: 60 million sold
* McDonald's doesn't brag about: 50 million butchered
